Madison is positioned fourth in the list of the most physically fit cities in the United States.

The city of Madison, Wisconsin was ranked first in terms of parks per capita.

The city of MADISON in Wisconsin, known for its ample parks and enthusiasm for physical activity, has been recognized as one of the fittest cities in the U.S. in a new ranking.

The American College of Sports Medicine recently placed Madison in the upper echelon of cities in the United States, ranking it as the fifth most fit city in the country. This evaluation was made in a survey of 100 cities, with the scores based on individual health and neighborhood health.

Madison achieved a top-four ranking in the initial survey but failed to make the top twenty when environmental elements were taken into consideration. Furthermore, it was outstripped by Milwaukee, the other Wisconsin city surveyed.

Milwaukee ascended to 12th place in terms of community fitness, however, its health ranking was in the lowest third, landing at 70th out of all cities that were surveyed, which resulted in it being ranked as the 43rd fittest overall.

Despite ranking lower in general neighborhood health, Madison managed to do better than ever in one particular area. According to the study, 11 parks per 10,000 people in Madison exceeded the amount of parks in other cities, and 95 percent of citizens were able to access one of these parks in a 10-minute walk.

Madisonians relish physical activity, as evidenced by the parks in the city. Madison didn’t come in last in the survey either, as Arlington, Virginia, the most fit city, had an 85.7% share of people who reported exercising in the last 30 days. Madison scored close behind, with 84.3% of its citizens having exercised in the same time frame, just over a point below Arlington, and more than eight points ahead of the national average of 75.7%.

For the fourth year in a row, Arlington takes the lead in this recent study. The following is the top 10 list:

1 Arlington, Virginia

2 Minneapolis, Minnesota

3 Seattle, Washington

4 Denver, Colorado

5 Madison, Wisconsin
